Rural La Porte
City, south of town
cemetery was established in 1855, and still exists as the
only cemetery still serving the community of La Porte City.
The early stones of the cemetery read as a roll call of
the community founders, business people and dwellers. As
with many cemeteries, there are stones showing the changes
in the cemetery monuments over the years.
The statue in
honor of "Our Boys of 1861-1865" was erected by the Women's
Relief Corps and citizens of La Porte City May 30, 1898.
