Gingrich House
Location:
La Porte
City
300 Walnut |
|
Designed by John Ralston, this home was first occupied in
1916 by Clement B. Gingrich, a well-known citizen of La
Porte City who was involved with politics and also was manager
of the Co-operative Creamery in La Porte City. In addition,
Mr. Gingrich was a founder of the Farmer's Mutual Telephone
Exchange in La Porte City. The house is architecturally
significant because of the extent of its preservation. No
major changes have occurred within the home since it was
built. Many of the original details remain, including original
bathroom fixtures, a cistern and pocket doors. As of October
1996, the home is being considered for placement on the
Nation Register of Historic Places. It is maintained as
a private residence.
