| The
FFA Agricultural Museum features exhibits related to rural
life of a bygone era. The Museum was set up in 1970 under
the sponsorship of the La Porte City chapter of Future Farmers
of America. A $5,000 matching fund grant from the National
Bicentennial Committee enabled the Museum to purchase its
present buildings.
The Museum is
housed in the former fire station and town hall (built in
1876). The former jail (built in 1911) is the Museum's reception
area. Special exhibits include a doctor's office, a dentist's
office and a barbershop. Other exhibits include farm implements,
military artifacts, religious items and a schoolroom.
The Museum is
now owned and operated by the City of La Porte City. It
is open every Saturday and Sunday from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.
Admission is free, though contributions are welcome. For
more information, call the City Hall in La Porte City at
342-3396.
