Oldest House
in Cedar Falls
Location:
Cedar
Falls
123 East Seventh Street
|
| The
claim of this house, the "Old Mully Place," to be the oldest
house in Cedar Falls is based on a statement by local historian
Roger Leavitt in his 1928 book, When Cedar Falls was
Young. He wrote that the house was "considered" to be
the oldest. Like many early buildings in Black Hawk County,
the true date of construction is difficult or impossible
to verify. Record keeping in those days was less exact than
it is today.
The house was
probably built around 1860. It was built of brick that has
since been covered over with concrete. Mrs. Carl Coffman
purchased the house in the late 1940s and converted it into
a duplex. An additional basement area and new floor and
wall sections were constructed at that time. |
