I am from a German background with ancestors going back to Luxembourg, I was raised on a farm about
7 miles south of Lansing, Iowa. I am a graduate of Immaculate Conception High school in Lansing, Iowa.
In December of 1963 I was hired by John Deere as a machine operator. Receiving my journymans card as a Tool and Die
Maker in 1978. I than worked on Both New work and running repair as a tool maker throughout the factory at several of the
Waterloo sites, until I retired on April 30, 1995 after 31 years of service.
This is the day the lord has made, April 21,2001, let us rejoice and be glad in it!! Delores and I have much to rejoice and be glad about
today. The church of the Archdiocese of Dubuque and the Community of Blessed Sacrament in Waterloo rejoice in the call
to ordination of Norman Schauls to the Order of Permanite Deacos.
I was ordained at St.Raphael Cathedral in Dubuque on Saturday, April 21 in a very wonderful ceremony.
We have five grown children with families of their own. We have eighteen grand children ranging in age from 2 months to
twenty-seven years of age, fourteen of them are boys, four are girls, making for some interesting family gatherings on what ball game to play.
As of august 04, 2005 we welcome our first Great grandchild in Josephine Eleanor Schauls.
They are the joys of our life we love to have them come to visit and play. There are times when we love them just as much
when they go home with Mom and Dad.
Delores has two sisters Lorraine Drew, Kay Mettille, and three brothers James, Frank, and Larry who live in the Waukon, Lansing areas.
I have one sister living with her husband Conrad Fredrickson in Colona, Illinois. I had one brother Ronald who passed away in 1987.
Delores spent most of her time in the early years at home with the children getting them off to school and the many
school activies. She also worked as a part time cashier for about 12 years at the local Goodwill Store. Retiring when I
did in 1995.
We have found many things to do with our time since retirement, we spend a lot of time caring for the grand children
while moms and dads work. (Delores does most of this) We have traveled some, we are very involved in church related
activities with some of our time.
We have genealogy records on all four of our families of ancestors and try to keep up with the additions. I also work in my
shop in the garage on some woodworking projects. I also have a 1950 "B" John
Deere I am restoring. And when I don't have anything else to do I work on web pages keeping our
parish web site Blessed
Sacrament up to date.
