The purpose of RSVP is to engage persons 55 and older in
volunteer service to help meet community needs and to provide
a high quality experience that will enrich the lives of volunteers.
How do I get involved?
Volunteers register with RSVP, identifying their interests. RSVP,
in cooperation with other area nonprofit agencies, refers volunteers
to agencies according to each agency's identified need and the
interests identified by the volunteer.
Volunteers are never required to take an assignment.
The following are a few of the community needs RSVP
is helping to address:
- Literacy
- Mentoring
- Assisting students improve their understanding of the English
language and culture
- Assisting (through mediation) the Black Hawk County small
claim division
- Tax Preparation Assistance
- Helping seniors in their home remain independent by way of
friendly visiting, respite and money management.
- SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program)- Volunteers,
(trained by SHIIP staff) assist individuals with comparing and
evaluating Medicare supplement and long term care insurance
policies; help organize Medicare statements and file claims;
assess your needs so you can make informed decisions about health
insurance and understand your Medicare benefits and rights.
