- Digital Art for Teachers: getting together to share technology.
At this years 2001 Art Education Conference in Fort Lauderdale
over 30 Art educators joined together to form DAFT, digital art for
teachers. The purpose of the new organization is to provide
support for teachers interested in computers and art. Daft
welcomes all teachers interested in digital art. Beginners or
experts all have some ideas or skills that may help other
members with their programs. The object is to share best
practices and assist with technological problems. Daft and
www.kidzart.org have joined together to provide a resource on
the web. Members and visitors may check out student digital art
galleries, share lesson plans, and ask Questions on the daft
bulletin board. If you are interested in Digital art please visit us at

- THE BLAKE SCHOOL
VIRTUAL GALLERY CURATOR
10.29.01 Job Description "Plus"; for internal use only
The Blake School is looking for an individual to collaborate with
faculty, staff and students to develop a BLAKE VIRTUAL
GALLERY as well as a program to support its ongoing use and
success (curricular-based). We are looking for someone to
partner with us to explore and develop a process that provides
students and teachers with the opportunity to integrate Blake's
traditional liberal arts training with the developing world of "new
media" and new technologies.
Blake's VIRTUAL GALLERY is currently, loosely defined as a
website that allows the viewing, creating and
most importantly
interacting with works of art and expression, primarily
student-authored, but also possibly of other origins. With a focus
on the curricular area of visual arts, the Gallery project is
intended to provide a venue for collective/collaborative efforts of a
community as well as bringing together multiple languages,
communication media and the computer mediated process of
translation of ideas and concepts.
This project and its criteria is defined through, and is funded by,
an E.E. Ford Foundation grant and is for three years (school
years 2001-02, 2002-03, 2004-05). Expected assignment
start-date: January 7, 2002.
Qualifications: The Curator must be well versed in user
experience design, interface design, information design,
educational design, digital art, production, HTML coding, and
javascript programming. Knowledge of FLASH, SHOCKWAVE,
streaming technologies, database front-ending, perl and/or
mobile application development is a plus. Additional
qualifications include excellent oral, written and interpersonal
communication skills.
For more information or to schedule an interview, please contact
MICHAEL DOWNS, Assistant Head of School, at 952-988-3401
or mdowns@blakeschool.org

- I am a vocational teacher of Commercial Art/Illustration/Graphic Design in the Philadelphia School District; and, my program is Computer Graphics and Desktop Publishing. As a designer for the last 20 years and newly entering the teaching field, I
believe that your group will provide me with a wealth of resources on the educational aspects, and the growing technology in my trade. Through your site, I was also able to access the NAEA site (both interest me); therefore, expect to see me as a member s
oon. Please add me to your mailing list.
