James F. Fox - Class of 1939
Fox was active in East High athletics from 1936-39. He was a letter winner in football and wrestling, attaining all-conference in both. Fox graduated from Iowa State Teachers College, later the University of Northern Iowa, in 1943. While attending college, he lettered in football and wrestling, achieving all-conference status in football.

 He served in the U.S. Merchant Marine following college, then went into education and coaching, teaching first at Britt for two years. Fox moved to Davenport High School in 1948 and taught and coached 36 years for Davenport School District.

Fox was named head football coach at Davenport High School in 1984, he worked at St. Ambrose University in Davenport for 10 years as athletic director.

He is a member of the Iowa Football Coaches Hall of Fame, Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Hall of Fame, UNI Hall of Fame, Quad Cities Sport Hall of Fame, Cresco National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Davenport Brady Street Stadium Hall of Fame.

He also served many years as an official for different sports and served in many different civic organizations.
