The "4 - 40" Scholarship To Honor Mal Duncan

A scholarship fund has been established in memory of Mal Duncan. In addition to many community activities, Mal spent countless hours on scholarship committees, and advising and mentoring students, in groups and one-on-one. That's why his family feels that establishing a scholarship fund in his name is the most appropriate way to honor his memory.

Mal Duncan believed that persistence in education would pay off down the road. He often talked to students about making a sacrifice for a few years to get marketable training because it is an investment in their future. His slogan for that was "4 for 40": 4 years of hard work during college so that they would have career options for the next 40 years.

A $500 scholarship will be awarded yearly to an African American high school graduate, to study math or science at an accredited college or university.

Applications are available at the Antioch Baptist Church business office, at 426 Sumner Street. Donations to the scholarship fund may be mailed to Antioch Baptist Church. Checks should be made out to the Mal Duncan 4 for 40 Scholarship Fund. For more information call (319)233-3245.
