| Instructor Susan Noonan will offer one hour of Drake graduate credit or recertification credit from Heartland AEA 11 for conference attendees.
Register at the Conference Registration Desk, Calinan Middle School. Attend 15 hours of the Fall Conference speakers, sessions, and events. Create a log of attendance with lesson plans, resources, artists, artworks, etc. that can be used in your classroom. Journal is mailed to Susan for evaluation: pass/fail for recertification credit, letter grades for Drake credit. Hint for students of this class: Bring your digital camera to record images. Course Description: Teachers will have access to learn new methods of studio arts, tours art history sites, learn to use advocacy to keep the arts in their community and schools, learn to apply Iowa Teacher Standards to lesson plans and create benchmarks from National Art Standards. All of these benefit how students are taught in the classroom and how information is collected and recorded. Focus of Instruction: This course will focus equally on deepening content knowledge and improving instructional practices of the participant. Course Requirements and Participant Evaluation: (For credit activities only) 1. Keep a journal log of each keynote, session, workshop and fieldtrip you attend. Add notes that will help you remember items you might use in the classroom and to help you create lesson plans for your classroom. Assemble journal, -not required to decorate it but need to add run-offs from your supplies I give you with session titles and times, add notes, hand-out, sketches, photo to your journal. Show it to the instructor and turn in log before you leave. 3. Choose one of the sessions you’ve attended and write about it in more detail. Use this information to create a lesson plan. Lesson plan should include any National Art Standard and Iowa Teacher Standards as well as a rubric for grading (or student self-evaluation. Also include a statement about how this lesson could be used in adocacy for your art program or school. (see sample plan and journal) 4. Email your lesson plan and statements to the email address or send it by snail mail by October 29, 2006. If you are wishing have your paper returned please include postage. 5. Decorate your journal with items you have collected at this conference, add sketches, reflections, samples of artwork you have tried in sessions, digital photos and other pertinent information. Show me the journal before you leave. If you are done and want more time to complete snail mail it to me. Include return postage. This journal should be a record that you can share with your students, collegues and use as a part of your teacher evaluation for your portfolio. 6. Write a two-three page reflection paper (typed) describing how you might use what you have learned from the sessions, workshops, fieldtrips you atended. Include some ways you could use advocacy in your school’s program, your community or statewide. Email or snail mail by October 29th 2006. D- Turn in log with notes of keynote speakers, sessions, workshops and fieldtrips on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; Notations of each to be entered into your journal log to tell something that you have learned for each; Journa.l materials and format provided. F- Signed up for class, but no work is received.
